Fifty (50) from the Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) which include the LVC girls, children from our CPC areas like Hillcrest and Judge Jimenez and the LVF staff participated in the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL) commemoration concert and artistic night entitled “Himig at Tula Para Sa IsangMilyongBatang Malaya” at the Rizal Open Air Auditorium on June 17, 2017 with the theme, “Sa ArmadongTunggalian, Sakuna o Bagyo, IligtasAng Bata Sa TrabahongMapang-abuso”.The LVC girls rendered two beautiful dance numbers. They also participated during the Panunumpa which was led by the National Youth Commission Chair AizaSeguerra. Another highlight during the event was the message of the International Labour Organization Project Coordinator Giovanni Soledad wherein he cited one of Laura Vicuña Foundation’s success story Ms. Rona CendyDeluta. On her part Ms. Rona said, “I was once a child laborer. Through LVF my life was changed. I am now a teacher and a LET board passer.” Sr. Aleth Evangelista, FMA and Sr. Clara Alacapa, FMA attended a 3- day Basic Seminar on Play Therapy at the Ateneo de Manila University on June 1 to 3, 2017 with Dr. Honey Carandang and the Philplay Team. The workshop made them understand the therapeutic value of play. According to Sr. Clara, “Play gives the child a sense of power over his environment. It is an antidote to helplessness and depression. Playing gives the glorious sensation of autonomy and is deeply satisfying not only for children but adults as well.” Thanks to one of our Board of Trustees, Mrs. Margaret Sy for this invitation. Forty (40) which include the Sisters, LVF staff and from the Mothers’ Club attended Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle’s Pentecost Recollection with the theme “One Body in Christ” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on June 4, 2017 which was organized by Word Exposed. Cardinal Tagle emphasized the importance of sharing one’s gifts for the common good and not being threatened by the gifts of others. He also stressed on setting free the person who has hurt you and freeing yourself from the prison of revenge and anger. Those who attended really felt lightened as they claimed victory over their failures. The Holy Spirit is really in their midst. Thanks to Ms. Judy Araneta-Roxas for this opportunity. One hundred (100) from the Provincial House (PH) Educating Community (EC) which is composed of the Sisters, Sta. Mesa Vicunians, Mothers’ Club and Staff participated in a prayer service on June 6, 2017 for five (5) Sisters who are leaving the PH Community: Sr. Marivic Sta. Ana, FMA; Sr. Marie Ampil, FMA; Sr. Sarah Robas, FMA; Sr. Ernielyn Deypalan, FMA and Sr. Connie Ayuyao, FMA. How happy the group was for living with the Sisters for several years. The PH community was also grateful for the kindness and understanding of the Sisters. Sr. Marivic said, “We should be ready to accept God’s will in our lives. Our lives should always be anchored in Jesus and Mary.” Agape followed after the service. Fifty (50) were present during the installation of Sr. Marivic P. Sta. Ana, FMA as the new animator of Laura Vicuña Center on June 7, 2017. Sr. Mabel Pilar, FMA; the Provincial Animator led the rites by praying for Sr. Marivic that she will be given the grace of mind and body. As being God’s instrument, Sr. Marivic was entrusted to the Father for divine intercession thatthe Holy Spirit will be with her at all times. Sr. Marivic on her part said, I hope the plan of God for these children will be discerned through the educating community. Merienda followed afterwards. Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) in partnership with the Philippines Against Child Trafficking (PACT) conducted a focus group discussion (FGD) to five (5)of our girls aged 13 to 17 years old from our Child Protection Clinic (CPC) area in Pinamana Site, Napindan, Taguig on June 11, 2017. This is in connection with the Gender Advocacy Alliance Project wherein LVF agreed to be a partner of PACT in this activity. One hundred (100) children of Barangay Herbosa, Tondo and their mothers attended an orientation of Laura Vicuña Foundation’s program and services on June 11, 2017 at Brgy.Herbosa Covered Court, Tondo by Ms. Joy Hugo and Ms. Virgie Jison. Barangay Chairman DominadorCaccam and some of his barangay officials were also present during the event. Barangay Herbosa, Tondo was chosen as LVF’s new CPC area. Ms. Brenda Angeles and the other Citibank volunteers visited Laura Vicuña Center on June 12, 2017. The games the Citibank volunteers prepared and the songs they rendered brought some excitement and joy to the girls. As a way of saying “Thank You”, a song and dance number was prepared by the LVC girls.To their delight, the visitors distributed school supplies, some goods and a packed lunch afterwards. As part of the World Day Against Child Labor Celebration, one of the staff of Laura Vicuña Foundation, Ms. Rona Cendy Deluta and NCLC Knowledge Committee Chair Mr. Julius Cainglet were interviewed at the set of “Dynamic Living, the Total You” by Dr. Mary Jean Loreche of Hope Channel Productions on June 20, 2017. They talked about being the children’s modern advocates and crusaders on child labor. According to the program producer Ms. Jade Soreño, “As we listen to Ms. Rona, we were inspired by her story. We are excited to share it with our viewers too.” The Laura Vicuña Foundation’s Sisters and staff gathered together on June 23-24, 2017 at the LVF new building for a staff orientation and formation for this year’s first encounter entitled “LVF MEET”. Sr. Marivic P. Sta. Ana, FMA, LVF’s Managing Director gave an orientation about LVF, discussed about Salesianity, the preventive system of St. John Bosco and the issues and interventions for children and adolescents at risk while Sr. Aleth Evangelista, FMA and Sr. Clara Alacapa, FMA discussed the play therapy seminar they participated. On the other hand, Ms. Ivy Gay Gantuan re-echoed the Salesian Youth Group while Ms. Mercedes Juncia talked about the advocacy communication planning seminar she attended. The 2-day encounter was very informative. The play therapy was relaxing too. In the afternoon was the farewell party of Sr. Aleth. The Vicunians gave her a farewell gift which touched everyone’s heart. It showed how they really loved Sr. Aleth.
