Two thousand two hundred sixty-one (2,261) students were given advocacy sessions in 3 areas in the Visayas: 17 schools in Escalante City (2,090) on different dates, St. Augustine Catholic School in Dumangas, Iloilo (101) on February 23, 2018 and Tangub community in Bacolod City (70) on March 4, 2018. The 17 schools in Escalante City were Libertad Elementary School (100) and Escalante National High School-Libertad Ext. (65) on February 15, 2018; Magsaysay Elementary School (134) and Escalante National High School-Magsaysay Ext (57) on February 19, 2018; Japitan Elementary School (115) and Buenavista National High School-Japitan Ext. (145) on February 20, 2018; Dona Rosario Valdivia Elementary School (75) and Mabini Elementary School (129) on February 21, 2018; Mercedes Alemany Parreno Elementary School (75) and Langub Elementary School (82) on February 26, 2018; Binaguiohan Elementary School (98) and Tamlang National High School-Binaguiohan Ext. (86) on March 1, 2018; Buenavista Elementary School (159) and Dian-ay Elementary School (104) on March 2, 2018; Paitan Integrated School (243) on March 5, 2018 and Malasibog Elementary School (252) and Buenavista National High School (171) on March 6, 2018. The Escalante schools are very remotely located. Ms. Mercedes Juncia, the Social Worker, who conducted the advocacy against child trafficking had to pass rough roads, ride a motorcycle as the only means of transportation and during rainy season had to pass muddy and slippery roads but her efforts were not wasted. The responses of the students were overwhelming. They committed to do the following: Go to school and study very well, be modest in the way they dress, be aware of illegal recruiters, don’t trust strangers, stop watching porno movies, take action and report cases of human trafficking. Advocacy in Escalante schools is in partnership with DepEd Escalante while the Tangub community was in partnership with the Negros Occidental Medical Society. The Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) celebrates International Women’s Day. LVF Teachers, Ms. Rona Deluta and Ms. Hazel Ramos, conducted advocacy sessions against child trafficking to trainees of Mary Help of Christians School, Calapan, Mindoro on March 8, 2018. LVF also celebrated International Women’s Day with a partner agency, the DepEd Escalante through LVF’s representative, Social Worker Mercedes Juncia who was invited as one of the resource speakers to teachers on “How to Build a Caring and Protective Environment for Filipino Children” during its Division Echo-Training for designated school child protection specialists from March 8 to 10, 2018 at Gabriela Hall, Escalante City. The young trainees of Laura Vicuna Technology Center, Sta. Mesa, Manila were given lessons on Protective Behavior by LVF’s Social Worker Ms. Joy Hugo on February 15, 2018. The Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) was invited by the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), an attached agency of the Department of Education on its research forum on children’s television at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Ortigas on March 16, 2018. LVF was represented by Ms. Mercedes A. Juncia. LVF Manila, Cubao and CPC areas became NCCT’s partner during the conduct of Telebibo (a media and television literacy seminar-workshop for children) and KaSaMaPa (Katuwangsa Mapanuring Panonood which is a day forum for parents, guardians and educators aiming to build a community of vigilant and critical television audience) held in LVF Cubao, Quezon Cityas well as LVWDTC in Negros held at Colegio de Sta. Ana last May 2017. The Laura Vicuna Foundation’s Educating Community composed of the Sisters, staff, Vicunians, CPC Oratorians and mothers celebrated Gratitude Day with the theme “Pamilyang Nagpapasalamat” on March 18, 2018 at LVF Building, Cubao, Quezon City. The day started with a Holy Mass followed by a simple community lunch. In the afternoon, there was a short skit about the life of a Vicunian who has found the remedies of the problems and ailments of the young which are good education, self-control, honesty, loving kindness, reason, prayer and faith in God. The dance number of the CPC oratorians also added spice to the presentation. What have we to thank God for? It is the gift of persons – especially the presence of our animator, Sr. Ma. Victoria P. Sta. Ana, FMA who has sacrificed so much for us. She has been a gentle light that has illumined our hearts and minds to the great plan of God in our lives. It is also through her that we have found the mission God has entrusted to us. Ms. Haney Ecraela from Diamond Hotel and Mr. Rene Reynaldo Denaque from a cruise ship both past pupils of Laura Vicuna Women Development Training Center (LVWDTC), Had. Malihao, Negros Occidental spent time to share their expertise with the LVWDTC’s Senior High School students and Hotel Restaurant Services this February 2018. The Laura Vicuna Foundation’s Educating Community which is composed of the lay staff, Vicunians and Sisters attended an annual Lenten Recollection at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Quezon City last March 26, 2018 with Fr. Luciano Felloni as the Recollection’s speaker. He expounded on the readings of the 4 Sundays of Lent.God calls us for a renewal, for a transfiguration of our lives wherein the power of God’s word which brings order to our lives. Our spiritual lives should not be found dry as Lent comes to an end but the forthcoming Easter Triduum bring us inner conversion, transformation and new beginnings.
