The LVF Board of Trustees approved the adoption of the FMA Palawan Center in its Board Meeting last June 21st. Sr. VilmaTallone, Economer General, has recommended that the Macarascas Palawan Learning Facility be under the Laura Vicuña Foundation. At present there are 60 children being served by the center. Sr. Ana Guerrero, FMA and Ms. Felina Narvaez attended this TVET conference held at Crowne Plaza in Quezon City on July 10th. It was attended by hundreds of TVI’s representatives all over NCR and keynote speakers who are responsible in providing competitive technical skills. The summit aims to provide TVI’s information and news about the future perspective of TESDA and Alliance of TVET Schools Associations when it comes in developing skills that will benefit people who are studying and seeking job opportunities here and abroad. The event also talked about the possible partnership of TVI’s to the different fields of skills enhancement organizations such as METRO TAPE and COMPTIA Academy. TVI’s representatives where also introduced to Urban Farming and Diploma Program with Bundled Qualifications as part of developing interest in providing educative and life sustaining works. The Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) joined the IACAT (Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking) in the World Day Against Trafficking Celebration for anti-trafficking advocates which was held on July 27, 2017 at the New World Manila Bay Hotel, Philippines. Sr. Ma. Victoria P. Sta. Ana, FMA and Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA represented LVF in this dinner reception. Laura Vicuña Women Development & Training Center (LVWDTC)At the onset of the School Year 2017-2018 ,LVWDTC officially opens with an Introduction of School Staff and Personnel, Sisters and lay Collaborators ,Orientation of Parents, Trainees ,and SHS Students on School Rules and Policies ,Mass of the Holy Spirit (June 20) Pope’s Day Celebration (June 29) and Socialization Day (July). Also, in preparation for the beginning of the school year ,the LVWDTC Faculty and Staff has undergone updating seminars and formation so as to to be fully equipped as they face the challenges of a true Salesian Educator. As a partner of Cross Catholic Outreach, Sr. Marivic P. Sta. Ana, FMA and Sr. Clara Alacapa, FMA attended a whole day affair of Partners’ Conference Convergence of Mission Paths on July 22nd at the Centennial Room, Club Filipino, San Juan City. Twenty-five youth coming from the Laura Vicuña Foundation participated in this 6th Singles and Youth Faith on Fire Event called “Relentless” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on July 1st. Worship sessions, skits, spirit filled talks and games were given to the participants, based around this year’s theme, “Relentless” to reignite the passion for Jesus in the youth. During the half day event, the young people heard faith testimonials from the speakers. Bishop Honesto Ongtioco talked about the wrong notion of love while Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle in his inspirational message challenged the youth of today to pass on the faith and not to pass on vices, hardness of heart, discrimination, injustice and fear. He said, “Start while still young in spreading Jesus to others.” One of the participants said, “Because of my sickness I am a burden to my family. But during the talk I realized how God loves me and how He took good care of me through my mother. I need to give importance to what He has given me - my life. I need to pray and cling to Him to overcome these difficulties in life.” Another one said, “I was able to relate to a particular group called Nuggets when they gave their testimony. Like me they have gone through so many trials in life but they were able to surpass it by their faith in God.” The Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) in partnership with the Philippines Against Child Trafficking (PACT) participated in a training consultation on Gender Based Violence and Economic Empowerment for Girls and Young Women on July 20-23rd at the Icon Hotel, Quezon City. LVF Staff Ms. Rona CendyDeluta and LVF Youth Hannah Babes Yap took part in this activity. The members of the 501st Legion Philippine Garrison dressed in Star Wars costume surprised the children of Laura Vicuña with a visit coordinated by Ms. Eya Montes Uy. Ms Uy who is the Chairperson of Quezon City Performing Arts Development Foundation Inc brought scholars in guitars who also played some classical songs for the children. The 501st gave a hearty lunch treat. Donations in cash and in-kind were also turned over to LVF by the 501st volunteers.
