Child Protection Clinic on Wheels
As problems affecting children are perpetuated by people’s traditional practices and value system, LVF proactively responds by creating an environment that would ensure their utmost care and protection, thus intensifying its effort of building a “culture” that would serve the best interest of children, hence the implementation of the CHILD PROTECTION CLINIC (CPC) Programme.
From the confines of LVF centers, its comprehensive child protection programmes were brought closer to high risk urban poor communities by making the Child Protection Clinic Programme mobile. LVF Social Workers, Salesian Sisters, Staff and child advocates composed the Team that took a rented jeepney every weekend to reach the CPC partner communities. The mobile Child Protection Clinic (CPC on Wheels), which was inaugurated in November 2011, aims to create a culture of protection for children, the weakest and most defenseless in society by offering learning sessions on children’s rights, protective behavior, protection from and prevention of abuse; catechesis; a help desk for those who seek assistance against abuse.
Starting with 600 children and youth per month in 2010, the LVF Child Protection Clinic on Wheels now provides preventive interventions against human trafficking to an average of 1,500 per month in 2013 and a total of 3,000 individuals served per year to include parents and community leaders who now actively take part in building a culture of social protection in high risk communities.
The existing CPC communities include Judge Jimenez, Brgy. Kamuning (Quezon City), Hillcrest, Brgy. Immaculate Conception (Quezon City), Brgy. Masambong (Quezon City), Pinamana Site, Brgy. Napindan (Taguig City ), Brgy. Nangka (Marikina), and Brgy. 621 (Bacood, Sta.Mesa, Manila).
Some of the bigger girls at Laura Vicuna Center are involved in the CPC and conduct some sessions with children and youth. Their parents are also gathered for learning sessions and livelihood skills training. Through these activities, they are able to protect their children from the possibility of abuse, exploitation and trafficking.
