The Laura Vicuña Technology Center (LVTC) commencement exercises were held at the Don Bosco Grounds, Sta. Mesa, Manila on April 23, 2017. Twenty (20) graduates earned their diplomas, 10 from Electronics and 10 from Office Technology. Ms. Rona Cendy Deluta, the guest speaker was a former scholar of Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) from elementary to college. She is now employed at LVF as an in-house teacher. Some of the graduates were also recognized for their outstanding overall academic performance. One of those awarded was another LVF scholar Angelina Tan. It was so touching having one of the Board of Trustees, Sr. Aleth Evangelista, FMA pinning the award on her. Guests, family and friends attended the ceremony to share in the success of the graduates. Sr. Felicidad Boado, FMA and Sr. Catherine Urgello, FMA were also present during the ceremony and had the honor to give the awards to other deserving students. The Salesian Sisters and the LVF staff wish all the graduates success in their future careers. Twenty-four (24) parent leaders coming from the Child Protection Clinic (CPC) areas and the oratory centers of the Salesian Sisters attended Laura Vicuña Foundation’s (LVF) PRAISE (Parents Reject Abuse, Ignorance and Sexual Exploitation) Training on April 1 and 2, 2017 at the LVF Building, Cubao, Quezon City conducted by Sr. Aleth Evangelista and Ms. Joy Hugo. The training will help them become parent advocates to their fellow parents in the communities. They will help the LVF Team and the Salesian Sisters to continue the work they have been doing for the past 26 years. Sr. Marivic, the Managing Director of Laura Vicuña Foundation was invited as the resource speaker during the Second International Congress in Psychology at the De La Salle University (DLSU), Dasmariñas, Cavite on April 3, 2017 to share varied interventions to Psychology students of DLSU on “Issues and Interventions for Children and Adolescents at Risk”. The CPC on Wheels visited Iloilo, Panay Island and Occidental Mindoro last April 3-6, 2017. Two hundred fifty-three (253) attended the sessions in Barangay Man-it, Passi, Iloilo (52) on April 4, 2017; Barangay Tagudtud North, Bugasong, Antique (163) on April 5, 2017; and Mary Help of Christians School, Calapan, Oriental Mindoro (38) for its advocacy sessions on child trafficking. This was conducted by Ms. Mercedes Carla Juncia assisted by Ms. Lhiza Palajorin. Fifty-five (55) children and fifteen (15) mothers were the recipients of LVF’s Easter gift-giving at Pinamana Site, Barangay Napindan, Taguig City on April 12, 2017. The people of Pinamana were able to embrace God’s perspective more deeply by their appreciation of what LVF has given to them this beautiful season. Last April 28, 2017, two of the resident girls in Cubao Shane Yap and Remilyn received their First Communion during the community mass presided by Fr. Bobby Roxas, SDB. They were prepared by Sr. Rufina Garcia, FMA. Before the Mass, they received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Shane and Remilyn were radiant and beaming after they received Jesus for the first time and they promise to love Him and obey His commands.

Ph Educating Community Gratitude dayThe Provincial House (PH) Educating Community celebrated their Gratitude Day on March 4, 2017 with the theme “Pamilyang Pilipino, Buong Siglang Nagpapasalamat.” Nearly two hundred fifty (250) attended the celebration which including the Vicunians, Mothers’ Club Group, Trainees, Sisters and the PH Administrative staff. It started with a thanksgiving mass officiated by Fr. Bernardo Carpio, SDB. He said that we should not only thank God for the gift we have received in the person of our animator Sr. Marivic but we should treasure her so much in our life. As Sr. Fely said, “There are 3 M’s that Sr. Marivic has. They are maalalahanin (thoughtful), matulungin (helpful/generous) and madasalin (prayerful) which made her more endearing to us. A short play regarding a festival in the village was portrayed by the PH Educating Community like Santacruzan, Sinulog, Harana, etc. Everybody felt they should not miss this chance of saying thank you to Sr. Marivic who has been very supportive to their aspirations in life. A sumptuous dinner was served afterwards to everybody’s delight. Confirmation Rites at DBSTen (10) from the PH Educating Community which include the Vicunians, LVTC students and PH personnel were confirmed by Bishop Broderick Pabillo at the Don Bosco School grounds on March 4, 2017. They affirmed their Christian belief and are now full members of the Catholic Church. Dream It, Be It at Nazareth SchoolAround one hundred twenty five (125) participated in the Dream It, Be It conference workshop at Nazareth School on March 11th. One participant shared that poverty was not a hindrance to one’s dreams. “Just be positive,” she said. Then she added, “Many will benefit from success in one’s life.” At the end of the session everybody prayed for one another's goal ladder. Holy RetreatThe Laura Vicuña Technology Center held its HOLY RETREAT at Negros Occidental last March 23 – 27. A total of 37 trainees attended with 4 LVF staffs and teachers. It was facilitated by 2 FMA Sisters. The retreat is part of their Spiritual journey before they graduate. Each day consisted of different activities that gave them the opportunity to know themselves and each other and most especially for God’s beautiful intentions for all. They were also given the chance to visit some places in Negros such as Bacolod Cathedral, Angry Christ Church, The Ruins and Gawahon Eco Park at Victorias City. Indeed, the retreat was a success. The joy, gladness and the feeling of being relieved were present to trainee’s faces. They were full of hope. Memories and learning that won’t be forgotten. Read AlongTwenty-seven (27) Vicunians from PH Sta mesa participated in the Read Along at the Daily Inquirer . They were able to listen to 3 stories read by 3 celebrities ; Ms. Anne from Sophia School, Ms. Bianca Manalo and Ms. Yra Mariano. They act as role models for these kids and encouraged them to read. Tour of CPC on Wheels in NegrosAfter a year based at Mary Our Help Technical Institute for Women-Minglanilla Cebu; our Child Protection Clinic (CPC) on Wheels traveled to Negros Occidental on March 23rd. It went to several places in Victorias City namely Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias, Colegio de Sta. Ana Integrated School, Don Bosco Technical Institute-Victorias, Laura Vicuña Women Development and Training Center- Hda. Malihao and the City Hall of Victorias where (LVF) advocacy sessions were given. Advocacy Sessions in Negros SchoolsWe have reached far-flung schools for sessions on human trafficking. Nine hundred fifty-six (956) students attended the sessions in the following schools: Malanog Elementary School, Calatrava; Mabini Central Elementary School, Escalante; and Toboso National High School, Toboso. They realized they need to speak up and take action, to focus on their studies and to make others aware of the evils of human trafficking. The CPC on wheels van also went also to Zone 3, Barangay VI, Victorias City which is an adopted community of Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias (CSAV). One hundred twelve (112) children attended the advocacy session. This is in partnership with CSAV.
