Media Literacy Seminar Workshop Seventy-eight (78) children participated in the three-day media literacy seminar-workshop “Telebibo” conducted by the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) in partnership with the Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) at the new LVF building, Cubao, May 2-4th. Telebibo is a media literacy workshop for high school students. Participants came from the Laura Vicuña Center, Don Bosco Sta. Mesa and from our LVF’s Child Protection Clinic areas. The speakers were Mr. Frank Rivera, Mr. Ariel Sebellino, Judy Galleta and Atty. Jonathan Presquito of MTRCB. Various topics were shared for example:- Key Concepts of Media Literacy, Advertisement, TeleSerye, Comedy Shows, Social Media and Story Pitching. The seminar-workshop gave the participants the necessary skills to develop their critical thinking so as to to be able to evaluate and analyze different media products/materials and create new concepts of child friendly television programs that are appropriate and intended for their holistic development. Forty participants(40) from the Laura Vicuña Center which included the Sisters, Staff and Girls went to Baguio City for a formative project planning workshop on May 16-19th. The aim of the workshop was to make the girls participate in the planning. Sr. Phebe Lacse, FMA conducted a session with them by discussing the Salesian preventive system. Sr. Aleth Evangelista, FMA conducted an activity which boosted their self-esteem. Ms. Joy Hugo was tasked in the formative planning. She used the appreciative inquiry approach. It utilizes 4 processes which are: Dream, Discover, Design and Destiny. The approach aimed to envision their future in order to foster positive relationships among them. Before they went home they thanked Sr. Aleth for everything. It made them realize how God really loves them. They passed by the Church of Our Lady of Manaoag and prayed for the realization of their dreams. On May 24, 2017, nine (9) STARS Salesian Sisters celebrated their Silver Jubilee of Religious Profession and Sr Airiz Mae Japitana made her perpetual profession, a Yes, Forever! . A Eucharistic Celebration led by Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan, Reverend Bishop Socrates B. Villegas, D.D., was held at St. John Bosco Parish Church, Makati . Bishop Soc, said he was honored to be part of the celebration. For him, the example and inspiration of the Sisters is already a homily. He said, they have made the Gospel come very much alive in a tangible and edifying way by sacrificing everything to follow Christ. As a community of disciples they learned to be truly humble servants of one another by being Christ-like who did not come to be served but to serve and to give their lives as a ransom of others, inspiring each and every one to the spirit of service. Reception followed at the Savio Dome, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati City. Thirty from Laura Vicuña Center went to the Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig for a field trip on May 1st. Science comes alive to these girls by nurturing their minds in a fun and creative way. Thanks to UP Good Karma for this opportunity. A whole day Summer Sportsfest was held in Angelicum College, Quezon City this May 2017. Our Laura Vicuña Center girls were able to show their skills and talents in volleyball. They were able to have time to bond and make new friends. It was also a big break for them from a year of tedious tasks in school. Expressive arts therapy is the practice of using imagery, storytelling, dance, music, drama, poetry, movement, horticulture, dream work, and visual arts together, in an integrated way, to foster human growth, development, and healing. Volunteer teachers gave the Laura Vicuña girls this creative summer program. It is about reclaiming their innate capacity as human beings for creative expression of their individual and collective human experience in artistic form. It is also experiencing the natural capacity of creative expression and creative community for healing. Our Laura Vicuña girls practice daily meditation and trauma release exercises. Their trauma release exercise is a simple yet innovative exercise that assist their bodies in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Daily meditation gave them thought provoking insights to help them live life fully.
