Forty-nine (49) students which include the following: Senior High School (SHS-17) and trainees (32) graduated during the 18th TVET and 1st SHS Commencement Exercises at the Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center (LVWDTC) gym on October 30, 2018 with the theme: “Quality Graduates: Ready to face Life’s Challenges with Sure Job and Sure Future”. Their guest speaker is LVWDTC’s past pupil Ms. Haney Ecraela, chef of Diamond Hotel. Ms. Ma. Teresa L. Asidoy, Public School District Supervisor of Victorias North Elementary School and principals of other public schools assisted in the distribution of diplomas, medals and certificates. The day prior to their graduation, SSS Victorias manager Mrs. Brenda Cruz explained Social Security System (SSS) benefits to the graduating students. Sr. Mel with Miss Ilya Flores went to Alacaygan Elementary School, to meet the grade 6 students on September 14 and 21, 2018. Miss Flores gave the Children’s Rights and Trafficking in a workshop style. Mrs. Minerva Mirasol, a parent oratorian also shared on child work and children in conflict with the law to parents. The school offered lunch after the seminar. Then on October 7, 2018 the Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center (LVWDTC) oratory welcomed these Alacaygan students at the LVWDTC gym, Hacienda Malihao, Victorias City. There were thirteen (13) of them who came in one tricycle. They were the ones whom the Salesian Sisters have encountered during their trafficking and children’s rights advocacy this September. Ten packs of groceries were given to the Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center during the National Salesian Family Encounter held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute, Victorias City. Families of ten (10) oratorians were the recipients of this outreach program last October 20, 2018. Different members of the Salesian family assigned in Malihao distributed them after a short catechesis. After 5 Saturdays of intensive football training and practice, thirty-five (35) of LVF’s children (27 CPC Taguig boys and 8 LVF girls) were prepared for the 9th Kopa ng Pagsilang/Miguel G. Dizon Football Festival held last October 28, 2018 at the Philippine Navy Grounds, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. They did not win but they learned the skill to work as a team and the determination to keep on trying until the end. This festival is held annually in memory of Miguel G. Dizon, the deceased son of LVF’s Vice President, Mr. Francisco Dizon, who was an avid football player during his schooldays ADMU. LVF’s representatives Social Worker Ms. Joy Hugo and child Hannah Babes Yap attended a 2-day Planning and Learning Session on Making PACT’s Gender Policy Inclusive at Robbinsdale Residences, Quezon City on October 23 and 24, 2018. They listened to the talk about the LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) and that they too should be given protection. Sr Mel, Sr. Phebe and Sr. Yvonne together with the SYM leaders and with the whole parish of St. Joseph the Worker with motorcade and yellow flaglets braved the hot and warm weather to welcome His Excellency Patricio Buzon, Bishop of Diocese of Bacolod for his pastoral visit on September 8, 2018. All religious organizations, people from their houses, young and old went out to meet and greet him. The following day, Bishop Buzon celebrated the Holy Eucharist in the chapel of Binanlutan full packed of young people, fathers, mothers and local government officials. The Bishop was very fascinated because of the active participation of an overflowing crowd. He was also gratified by the attentiveness of everyone when they responded and joined the choir composed of the oratorians in singing. He suggested that every family should have their own Bible at home. After the Mass, potluck lunch was served in the Cuaycong covered court. He proceeded to the Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center (LVWDTC) where he was warmly greeted by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. He toured the school and recommended to take care of the marginalized, the learners of the Alternative Learning System. Briefly, he met the Sisters and congratulated the work they are doing in the periphery. He went straight to Don Bosco Technical Center for the encounter with young people where 24 of the LVWDTC students are delegates. MORNESE, HOUSE OF SPIRITUALITY was the venue of the 2-day retreat of the 22 LVTC trainees’ batch 2018, facilitated by Sr. Analyn Guerrero, FMA. The retreat was a moment of reflection on where they come from, what they can say about their families, and how their life is. They were also guided to see the deep meaning of life and death. Moments of silence, prayer and personal talk with God were provided. Indeed, the retreat was a moment of pause to see one’s journey and to continue to face the challenge of life and to strengthen one’s resolve to follow Jesus’ way of life. On the other hand at Malihao,Victorias City, Sr. Mel gave an hour recollection to the ALS learners last September 19 and reflected on how blessed they are for the gift of their families and to value life because life is so short and temporary. On October 5, 2018 as part of celebrating WORLDS TEACHERS DAY, LVTC trainees pay tribute to their teachers. It was a simple celebration wherein the trainees gave their best to imitate the gestures and looks of their teachers through a show entitled “MINI ME”. They also presented a song and dance number to lighten up the day and at the end of the program they gave an appreciation certificate for each teacher. The celebration ended with a shared lunch. The Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center on the other hand celebrated this year’s Educators’ Day on October 9, 2018. This is a day of thanks given by the LVWDTC’s students, trainees and ALS learners to all their teachers. 120 Parents and learners from Laura Vicuna Center- Palawan gathered for the 4thFamily Formation with the theme: “Pamilya, Binhi ng Bokasyon at Pananampalataya.” One of the parent leaders, Mrs. Ritchel Chavez, served as the facilitator for the day. A film showing entitled “Seven Sundays” was shown to them to see the realities and dynamics of Filipino family and reflect their own situation. Sharing by family followed on how they felt while watching the film and the lessons learned which they can apply with their own families. Sr. Aleth Evangelista gave an input on Pope Francis’ letter to families, Amoris Laetitia. Kwentong Bokasyon followed after lunch where the different sharers told their vocation story- Bro. George Visitacion on Priesthood, Sr. Erlinda Soriano on Religious Life, Mr. & Mrs. Mario and Sanita Recorte on Married Life and Ms. Sofia De Guzman on Single Blessedness. 2018 SYNOD on the young ends and we are one with Mother Church as 70 young people gathered last October 27, 2018 at San Ezekiel Moreno Parish church for the Follow God’s Dream Youth Encounter. After orienting the young on what a synod is and showing a glimpse of the ongoing Synod in Rome, Fr. Flor Manlongat, parish priest, gave a biblical reflection on God’s call citing Samuel’s account in the Old Testament. The talk was followed by the vocation talk “Kwentong Bokasyon” of various sharers: Fr. Flor Manlongat on Priesthood; Sr. Erlinda Soriano on Consecrated Life; Mr. & Mrs. Mario Recorte on Married Life and Ms. Sofia De Guzman on Single Blessedness. The encounter ended with a one hour silent adoration, each one invited to listen attentively to Jesus’ voice: “COME FOLLOW ME.” One hundred twenty (120) children and mothers from Barangay Pinagkaisahan and Judge Jimenez celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary by the praying the rosary together with the LVF girls, staff and Sisters on October 7, 2018 at the Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) Building, Quezon City. The mothers also had a formation session with Sr. Gloria Agagon while the children with Sr. Clara Alacapa. They ended the celebration with some games, ukay-ukay and distribution of snacks. Then the LVF girls together with the Sisters also participated at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral’s Living Rosary Crusade on October 25, 2018. Likewise, the Laura Vicuna Women Development and Training Center students and some parents from Hacienda Cabuyawan and Malihao started the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary during this month of October.
