The Laura Vicuña Technology Center (LVTC) commencement exercises were held at the Don Bosco Grounds, Sta. Mesa, Manila on April 23, 2017. Twenty (20) graduates earned their diplomas, 10 from Electronics and 10 from Office Technology. Ms. Rona Cendy Deluta, the guest speaker was a former scholar of Laura Vicuña Foundation (LVF) from elementary to college. She is now employed at LVF as an in-house teacher. Some of the graduates were also recognized for their outstanding overall academic performance. One of those awarded was another LVF scholar Angelina Tan. It was so touching having one of the Board of Trustees, Sr. Aleth Evangelista, FMA pinning the award on her. Guests, family and friends attended the ceremony to share in the success of the graduates. Sr. Felicidad Boado, FMA and Sr. Catherine Urgello, FMA were also present during the ceremony and had the honor to give the awards to other deserving students. The Salesian Sisters and the LVF staff wish all the graduates success in their future careers. Twenty-four (24) parent leaders coming from the Child Protection Clinic (CPC) areas and the oratory centers of the Salesian Sisters attended Laura Vicuña Foundation’s (LVF) PRAISE (Parents Reject Abuse, Ignorance and Sexual Exploitation) Training on April 1 and 2, 2017 at the LVF Building, Cubao, Quezon City conducted by Sr. Aleth Evangelista and Ms. Joy Hugo. The training will help them become parent advocates to their fellow parents in the communities. They will help the LVF Team and the Salesian Sisters to continue the work they have been doing for the past 26 years. Sr. Marivic, the Managing Director of Laura Vicuña Foundation was invited as the resource speaker during the Second International Congress in Psychology at the De La Salle University (DLSU), Dasmariñas, Cavite on April 3, 2017 to share varied interventions to Psychology students of DLSU on “Issues and Interventions for Children and Adolescents at Risk”. The CPC on Wheels visited Iloilo, Panay Island and Occidental Mindoro last April 3-6, 2017. Two hundred fifty-three (253) attended the sessions in Barangay Man-it, Passi, Iloilo (52) on April 4, 2017; Barangay Tagudtud North, Bugasong, Antique (163) on April 5, 2017; and Mary Help of Christians School, Calapan, Oriental Mindoro (38) for its advocacy sessions on child trafficking. This was conducted by Ms. Mercedes Carla Juncia assisted by Ms. Lhiza Palajorin. Fifty-five (55) children and fifteen (15) mothers were the recipients of LVF’s Easter gift-giving at Pinamana Site, Barangay Napindan, Taguig City on April 12, 2017. The people of Pinamana were able to embrace God’s perspective more deeply by their appreciation of what LVF has given to them this beautiful season. Last April 28, 2017, two of the resident girls in Cubao Shane Yap and Remilyn received their First Communion during the community mass presided by Fr. Bobby Roxas, SDB. They were prepared by Sr. Rufina Garcia, FMA. Before the Mass, they received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Shane and Remilyn were radiant and beaming after they received Jesus for the first time and they promise to love Him and obey His commands.
