Two Vicuñans from the Laura Vicuña Center finally harvested the fruits of their labor after completing junior high school through Angelicum College’s REAP (Re-entry Education Agenda for the Poor) Program. It caters to learners who are determined to finish not only elementary but also secondary education without attending regular classes. A hard knock life may have hindered them from finishing on time, but their determination has propelled their journey to a better future. 27 Successful trainees from the Laura Vicuña Technology Center finally marched on stage and were conferred with their diploma last March 19, 2016 at the Provincial House of the Salesian Sisters in Sta. Mesa, Manila. On its 22nd year, the Laura Vicuña Technology Center continues to open doors of opportunities to its graduates as they are assured of sure employment after graduation. As LVF observes Women’s Month in March, it was a fitting moment to engage young boys and girls in creating a gender-sensitive society as a preventive antidote to violence mostly committed against women and girls. Sessions on protective behavior and children’s rights in its Child Protection Clinic communities are regularly given while also involving local schools to reach more participants. Last March 17, a half-day session was conducted at Pasong Kawayan II Elementary School in General Trias, Cavite reaching about 75 Grade 6 students. LVF-YEHEY ANIMATES Dream It, Be It IN GUMACA AND BAGUIO Following the successful conduct of YEHEY Camps 3 (Dream It, Be It Conferences) in San Juan and Bulacan in 2015, LVF Yehey facilitators were once again invited to conduct one-day Dream It, Be It conference workshops in Gumaca, Quezon with 75 attendees last February 27 and another set of 75 girls given the same sessions in Baguio City held last March 29. Dream It, Be It Conferences are joint undertakings of the Laura Vicuña Foundation and Soroptimist International – Philippine Region. With grateful hearts, 300 people – LVF children, trainees, parents, lay personnel and the FMAs gathered last March 13, 2016 at the Provincial House grounds for the traditional “Gratitude Day” celebration, a legacy left by Don Bosco to his Salesian family. This year’s theme is PH Nagpapasalamat…# Pamilyang Healthy, # Pamilyang Happy, and # Pamilyang Holy. With many things to give thanks for, especially having Sr. Marivic P. Sta. Ana, FMA as the animator of the Provincial House Educating Community, all that were present showed their sincerest appreciation through their beautiful song and dance presentations. The event was concluded with a hearty lunch.
