2018 LVF PARTI-HAN@ EK

Picture
1,200 STRONG, children, young people, volunteer-assistants and Salesian Sisters rocked the famous theme park in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Philippines; The Enchanted Kingdom last  December 1, 2018 all joyfully chanting “LVF 28 na! Parti-han Kay Saya!”!  Yes, the Laura Vicuña Foundation, Inc.(LVF) consistently and painstakingly organized the Annual Parti-han, a gathering of children from LVF’s 8 Child Protection Clinic (CPC) areas like Taguig, Gen. Trias Cavite, Marikina, Sta. Mesa and Quezon City (Culiat, Judge Jimenez, Hillcrest and Brgy. Pinagkaisahan) and other children-oratorians from the different youth centers of the Salesian Sisters in Luzon in anticipation of the Season of Joy and Love, CHRISTMAS. LVF has always made the joy and welfare of children and young people its priority.  The LVF 28 na! is a foretaste of a series of activities for its 30th Anniversary of pioneering excellent service for the children and young at risk of our society. This is also very timely because our Philippine Church is celebrating the Year of the Youth with the theme; FILIPINO YOUTH IN MISSION! BELOVED, GIFTED AND EMPOWERED! Many less fortunate ones were given the opportunity to feel loved and cared for.  It is one way of proclaiming God’s love for them. Since most of the children were first-timers their faces were pure bliss and excitement upon stepping on the park grounds.  The rides and other attractions were awesome.  For them there is real magic at EK.  Thanks to all our donors: Ms. Josefina  N. Tan; Mr Mario & Mrs Cynthia Mamon; Mr Joey  & Mrs. Marissa Concepcion; Mr Francisco & Mrs. Joyce Dizon;  Mrs Joey Sison; Amb. Joey & Mrs. Vicky Cuisia; Atty Eric& Mrs. Bea Puno and the Sta. Ana Family and sponsors for making this EK adventure a dream come true!

LVF Partners with DepEd Cadiz Division

LVTC Partners with TESDA for Competency Optimization

Picture
Competency optimization is one of the goals of our Technical Center.  We made it sure that our trainees get the necessary and even a ‘spill’ of what they should acquire in terms of education, training and excellence. Two batches of our LVTC Trainees (2016- 2020) took the NC III, National Competency 3, a government examination given by TESDA (Technical Education, Skills Development Authority).  85 % passed! On the other hand, our first year trainees with Ms. Felina Narvaez (faculty) and Sr. Virgilia Gaio, FMA obtain the Certificate from TESDA Language Skills Institute on English Proficiency for Customer Service Workers.  Both certifications are recognized in the international level.  Thanks to the industriousness of our trainees and the dedication of our sisters, teachers and staff to accompany and lead them to be the best that they can be. And so we move ahead!  We move forward!

CPC PARENTS CHRISTMAS PARTY

Picture
If the school is called the second family; here at LVF, we and the parents/guardians of our children and young people are hand-in-hand in shaping their minds and hearts.  That is the very reason why we give priority to the formation and advancement of parents believing that they too are stakeholders in our mission. At Christmas, we never miss to give them a day of fun and rejoicing that is why, sixty (60) parents from Barangay Pinagkaisahan, Judge Jimenez and Hillcrest gathered at the Laura Vicuña Center, Cubao on December 23, 2018 for their Christmas Party.  Despite the heavy rain, there were many attendees.  They joined in the games, received many prizes and goods for their Noche Buena. How they enjoyed the camaraderie of everybody like their fellow mothers, the LVF girls and the Salesian Sisters joined them and made them feel loved and special in this great season of sharing.

LVWDTC MALIHAO NEWS

Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Our Salesian Spirituality is our benchmark not only in the ‘production’ of quality graduates but most especially in preparing our young people to life and the real world.  That is why we at the LVWDTC never missed the opportunity to inculcate in our Trainees love and imitation of Mary.  Dec. 8, 2019 became an extra ordinary day for us, we advocated True Love Waits, a purity pledge to the Blessed Mother.  Our young people even with our lay mission partners  promised purity ‘til death offering to our Blessed Mother their very selves for the greater glory of God.

POWER MEET UP 2018

Picture
The Laura Vicuna Foundation and the FMA Provicial Economer Staff were privileged to have attended the Power Meet Up 2018  Captain of the Industry and Trailbazers Forum at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura Taguig last Aug. 11, 2018 from 9:00 to 1:00 noon.  Ms. Vicky Cuisia, member of the Board of Trustees of the LVF and the organizer of the said event made it possible to have put together the ‘captains of the Philippine Industry, Fernando Zobel of Ayala Corporation, Hans Sy of SM, Joey Concepcion of RFM Corporation and  Riza Mataring of Sun Life and the Trailblazers Haidee Enriquez, Stephanie Sy, Carlo Delantar and Paco Sandejas.  Dr. Bernardo Villegas (Phil. Economist) and Quintin Pastrana (Entrepreneur, Financial Expertand ANC Anchor) served as moderators.

It was indeed an educative experience not only on how to be successful in ones chosen field but in making success happen in the lives of people and our society.  These Captains and Trailblazers of Industry ‘bared’ their own and their families’ secrets to victory, that is, the traditional value of hard work, patience, dedication and perseverance combined with common sense and practical intelligence and wit.  They also emphasized the importance of ‘inclusivity’ that as the economy grows, every Filipino must feel in truth that their economic life improves. In the end, when everything is said and done, we need to have a ‘power heart’ to lift once again the ‘sick man of Asia’ to be the ‘hub of development and process’ our dear Philippines.  Mabuhay!

Home visitation in May

Picture
Families of our learners feel blessed to be visited by the Sisters in their own homes.  During the month of May which is the vacation month, the Sisters in Palawan took time to go to the learners’ homes to get to know the families better, see their realities in their respective communities and to bring the love of God in their families.  The sharing of the goodness and providence of God is commonly valued among them.  Amidst their poverty, they never failed to offer what they have as we shared meals together, enjoyed the beauty of nature around them and they even let us bring the fruits of their labor when we leave their homes they would offer us sacks of bananas, citrus, pomelo and coconut.  For them, our homevisit is the very visit of the holy family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, into their homes.

The LVF Staff, Vicunians and Sisters attended the Jesuit Communication’s Easter Recollection at Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 8th with the theme “We have seen the Lord.  Seeing the signs of the times.”  The Recollection Master was Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.  He spoke about our personal conviction in seeing the Lord.  Our lives will become predictable if we enslave ourselves with money, routine and technology.  Being fearful will also make us bias to surprises.  Showing respect in calling names, keeping our faith and letting God rule our life are the surest ways we can acknowledge God’s presence in our lives.  Our special thanks to Ms. Judy Araneta-Roxas for giving us this chance to attend this Easter Recollection.

FORMATION OF VICUNIANS TO THANKFULNESS AND SELF- GIVING

Life is beautiful.  However, to some children as our Vicunians, life has been cruel. They have found at Laura Vicuna Center (LVC) a home and family that cares for their growth.  The Sisters bring them to Jesus to heal their wounds and to count their blessings.  The girls are thankful for all the graces and goodness of people of goodwill they experienced at LVC.

Heeding Pope Francis’ invitation to love in action, the Vicunians thought of giving back by:
  1. Cooking spaghetti for 200 children every Sunday in January
  2.  Home visiting the children in Cavite;Taguig, Hillcrest, Judge Jimenez and Brgy. Pinagkaisahan
  3. Organizing games and playing with them
  4. Giving SYS formation and Follow Your Dreams Session
  5. Sharing their gifts at the Child Protection Clinic Communities

FORMATION OF PALAWAN LEARNERS

Picture

God calls us to a mission. The Holy Spirit guides us. Our Holy Mother protects us.  When we are called to serve, we go.  Sometimes it takes a while to understand what God wants and plans but most often than not, the path is paved for us and the obstacles are overcome.

For three (3) days from November 24-27, 2017, the LVF volunteers, Ms Carol Thor and Ms Sofia DeGuzman, had the opportunity to serve the LVF Palawan Learners at Barangay Macarascas, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. With the guidance of our Salesian Sisters, they were able to share their knowledge, experiences, learning and formation to 57 young people whose ages range from 13 to 18 years old. It was a fulfilling intense 3 days of formation and forum on Children’s Rights, Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem. These young people had the openness of hearts and minds to listen, absorb and hopefully apply in their lives what the volunteers have imparted. Looking at them, being with them, one can feel an overwhelming desire to protect them.  The hardship of their lives made some timid, others defensive, and even bitter but what is glaring in them is their desire to be better.  They have DREAMS and the LVF volunteers hope to assist them in the best way they can.

The LVF Volunteers thank Sr. SocRetardo, Sr. Zeny, Sr. AilynCayanan, Sr. Aleth Evangelista (who invited them), Angela Mahoney, our VIDES-U.S.A. Volunteer, Sr. Marivic Sta. Ana (for always believing in them), and Fr. FlorManlongat of the San Exequiel Moreno Parish.

The Feast of Christ the King was a great day to remind ourselves and these young people that there is only one King and that is Christ. It is so easy for these young people to be drawn to the pop idols that they see, to be attracted to the glitters that media unabashedly promote as true and beautiful.  The LVF volunteers encouraged them to look into their hearts and believe they don’t need their earthly idols and  that they are more beautiful. I Am A Child of God, I Am Beautiful.-This is their 'battle cry' as they bravely and sensitively engage each young person to share who they are now and who they dream to be.  The volunteers also gave practical tips & lessons to help them with their studies and life. Their  last hours with the Palawan learners were made meaningful by their songs, dances and good wishes but most especially by their heartfelt prayers and dedications they offered for  them.

5th Family Congress

Picture
The Laura Vicuna Foundation (LVF) conducted its 5th LVF Family Congress with the theme “Pamilya Ko, Alagaan Ko” on October 8, 2017 at the La Salle Greenhills, San Juan City.  Five hundred fifty (550) participants coming from the Child Protection Clinic on Wheels outreach areas and the Salesian Oratory Centers attended the activity.  Sr. Cathy Urgello, FMA, one of LVF’s Board of Trustees gave an inspirational message.

An excellent speaker, Fr. Eli Cruz warmed the hearts of the participants present, by discussing some articles of Amoris Laetitia illustrating with video presentation depicting real family life situations, as  follows:-

1.
The complexities of the reality of the family today with both its lights and shadows as discussed in Pope’s Francis encyclical Amoris Laetitia. Sometimes separation becomes inevitable. He emphasized that children should grow up hearing their mother speak well of their father, even though they are not together and their father speak well of their mother.

2      The value of the family
2.1   Where life begins
2.2   Where love never ends
2.3   Where habits for life are first formed

3) Open and caring families find a place for the poor and build friendships with those less fortunate than themselves. (Amoris Laetitia No. 183)

4) If a family is centered on Christ, He will unify and illumine its entire life.  Moments of pain and difficulty will be experienced in union with the Lord’s cross and his closeness will make it possible to surmount them.

In the darkest hours of a family life, union with Jesus in His abandonment can help avoid a break-up. (Amoris Art. 317)

Fr. Eli Cruz concluded with a challenge to the families not to model themselves on the world around them but let their behavior change and be conformed in Christ. This is the only way to discover the will of God and know what is good, what it is that God wants, what is the perfect thing to do. (Rm 12:1-2)

The program host Ms. Carolyn Zepeda Thor spiced up the program with her dynamism.

Skit presentations on how to resolve family problems and demonstrate care for the families were showcased by the different areas:- Laguna, Cavite, Pampanga,  Marikina,  Judge Jimenez, Hillcrest, Pinagkaisahan, Culiat and other areas in Metro Manila and a panel discussion which highlighted the need for daily family prayers and testimonies of how God can come to their rescue. The panel discussants were families of Mr. & Mrs. Dennis & Linda Cabuang, Ms. Arlene Banta Timuat and Mr. & Mrs. Steve & Eppie Clark.

Sr. Marivic Sta. Ana, LVF Managing Director, concluded the Family Congress with a challenge:  Families as a school of life and love, should take care of their families by communicating their pains and joys, resolving conflicts by dialoguing, forgiving and listening to each member of the families and praying together.
